Seamus Kennedy Memorial 2025
02-Mar-2025 The 2025 @cyclingireland road racing season got underway last weekend, with Orwell Wheelers putting in a strong first outing featuring both new and familiar faces delivering stellar performances. The first National Grade Event — the Seamus Kennedy Memorial hosted by @navanroadclub Navan RC — had a massive turnout. National CX Champs 2025 - Ballinasloe
What a day and what a course for the National cyclo-cross championships 2025 hosted by Ballinasloe Cycling Club! Orwell youths were there in force with 12 young riders representing the club. First up for our riders was Fiachra Connolly in the Under 8 category. A fearless display by Fiachra who made his way through the field on a shortened course. The finish line came too soon for him as he sprinted down the straight finishing a very impressive 3rd. Next up we had the under 10

1951 - the opening of Joe Daly Cycles
Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club was only 3 years old when a man called Joe Daly opened a new cycling shop in Dundrum on the 19th of October, 1951 Club jerseys have changed over the years, members have come and gone but spins from Joe Daly Cycles are still a regular feature of club life as is the constant generous support the club received from Joe and now his son David Tansey. The photo shows Joe outside the original shop along with the first coin he ever earned!

Vignettes from PBP 2019
After a nervy start - holding back the adrenalin - we’re in open, undulating roads. Dave roams up and down, placing his troops in formation. “Colin: go over there. Danny: come here … everyone set, ok, now gently accelerate … that's good.” A year of my life given for this moment. Time ceases - the night syncopated only by calls of “up and over!” Glancing back, the mother of all pacelines behind us, white LEDs snaking over the horizon, then back up the previous hill and beyond

Club League
The Club League has always been the basis of racing within the club since it's first racing season in 1949. It has followed various different formats across the years, sometimes combined with other clubs, sometimes on our own. Through the glory days of the Kelly-Roche era the league was a great success, and in the early 1990s the newly founded St. Tiernans came to race within the Orwell league, but with numbers dwindling each year the decision was finally taken to merge wit

Hammond TT
Run as a road race for several years, it reverted to its original time trial format in 2013. There are two trophies awarded each year - the Kieran Hammond cup and the Noel Hammond cup. The Kieran Hammond memorial trophy was formerly the Kelly-Roche junior classic, organised by Kieran until his unfortunately premature passing. It used to get huge fields in the 90s, and only become the Vets and Cs prize when after years of steady decline we had a year that no Juniors showed u

Stephen Roche GP

The challenging but spectator-friendly circuit invariably produces great racing action for the crowd lining the roadsides and congregated in the central green area. The 1.3km loop is located in the housing estate where no less than three of the Roche family took their first tentative pedal strokes on the road to Tour de France glory See the Archive page for a full list of SRGP resul
