Luke Kearney Orwell Wheelers (Winner Tommy Brady Cup)
It was a huge weekend of racing for Orwell Wheelers with over 15 riders competing across the country!
John Drumm Cup, Co. Kerry
Matt Lynch travelled south to his beloved Kerry and had a fantastic ride, finishing 7th at the John Drumm Cup. A strong performance that sees him gaining valuable points towards his C2 upgrade — great progress!
Tommy Brady Memorial
On Saturday morning, Matthew Lane, Werner Otto, and Luke Keaney suited up in a handicap-style race. The lads fought hard, with Luke Keaney getting up the road to take an impressive 3rd overall and win the Tommy Brady Memorial Trophy. Massive congratulations, Luke!
Corkagh Park Open Race
Back in Dublin, Evan Keane put in a storming ride to win the Open race at Corkagh Park — a brilliant ride.
Waller Cup, Bohermeen CC, Co. Meath
Sunday saw a big Orwell contingent head to the famous Waller Cup.
In the C3 race, Matthew Lane and Ruben Cano fought hard, finishing strongly in the bunch sprint.
In the Ladies race, Gráinne O’Callaghan rode brilliantly, spending much of the day closing down attacks. She sprinted to 6th place — a fantastic result in her first open race of the season! Yvonne Doran also finished strongly, proudly showing her Masters National Champion kit.
In the C2 race, Ronan O’Flynn, Luke Keaney, and Sean O’Kane worked superbly over the 115km course.
Ronan was particularly powerful and narrowly missed a top 10 after getting caught up in a crash.
Sean took a small tumble but thankfully was in great spirits afterwards.
Luke, who had been active all day in breakaways, was caught late and had to take evasive action into a ditch to avoid a crash on the final corner. Despite this, he still came home in a gritty 10th place, though there’s no doubt he left an even bigger result behind him.
CiCle Classic
In the final race of the weekend, Joe-Nathan represented Leinster in a stacked field, finishing a strong 39th out of 178 starters — a big effort.
