Brian McArdle’s eighth place overall and Betty D’Arcy Trophy win for first A3 rider was the highlight of a successful Easter weekend of stage- and one-day racing for Orwell Wheelers.

After the juniors dominated last weekend, this time it was the turn of the A4s in the limelight! The weather was not kind to riders in any race, leaving them muddy and wet on Saturday, while Sunday was cold and windy in exposed sections. But the A4s proved themselves more than capable of rising to the challenge.

With the cancellation of the Usher GP due to snow meaning limited racing opportunities for Orwellians, it fell to the juniors to bring home the bacon this weekend. Naoise Sheridan didn’t disappoint, grabbing a second place in Corkagh Park.

Eric Downey’s first victory against A1 opposition in Saturday’s Mick Lally Memorial capped an excellent weekend of results gathering by Orwell’s highly motivated racing battalion as the 2013 season got under way in earnest.

The 2013 racing season opened today in Monasterevin with the very well attended Ned Flanagan, organised by Newbridge CC. Orwell riders were out in force, with Eric Downey grabbing an unplaced prize.

The first year of the Orwell League is in the last stages of organisation, but in order to put the finishing touches to it, the committee need to finalise the entrant list. Please read on if you are hoping to take part this year.

Orwell have organised a few nights over the coming weeks, with something for every type of rider. These all take place on Monday nights at 7.30pm in the Milltown Institute.
