With no Orwell results in Clonard on Saturday, all eyes were on Newbridge to salvage the weekend, and the club did not disappoint! Diarmuid Collins, Mark Mulcahy and Ciara Kinch all took home prizes, read about them below.

The weather could not have been more different, but Orwell riders brought home the bacon both days last weekend. In Summerhill, Tom Blennerhassett, David Halpin and Brian McNally lit it up on Dorey’s Forge, while in Navan Ciara Kinch tore it up for second place, while Juniors Rachael Kaye-Mellor and Naoise Sheridan also took home prizes.

On a damp and dismal day in Dundalk, Monica Marconi netted herself a great third place in the women’s race at the Trader’s Cup.

We are very lucky to count Laurence Roche among the membership of Orwell Wheelers, and the former professional has kindly agreed to offer an evening in his company next Monday night, 24th Feb.

It’s a delight to commence the 2014 race reports with a superb win for Aideen Keenan in Monasterevin yesterday, and a fine fourth for Bernard English in the A4 event.

The Club League Committee are gearing up for the 2014 calendar, and are currently hard at work getting the necessary pieces into place. Ahead of the final calendar, here’s some prelimiary notices of your responsibilities for the Orwell League.

Launched with fanfare at the Jesuit Conference Centre in January, the Orwell Leisure Programme for 2014 is packed with events and competitions. Have a read below!

The Leisure Group are launching the 2014 Programme next Monday at two venues, the first half will be at the Jesuit Conference Centre in Milltown, starting at 19.00 and the second half will be as soon after that as they can get themselves to Ashtons in Clonskeagh – aiming for 20.30.

Throughout 2013, Orwell has entered teams in stage races the length and breadth of the country, and we’ve pulled together as many of the results from these as possible.

This Saturday night will see Orwell occupy the top floor of O’Donoghue’s of Suffolk St, as we gather for Christmas festivities and the annual prize-giving.

With the largest population of racing women in the country, Orwell are increasingly dominant on the domestic scene, and the tally of this year’s results proves that beyond doubt!

As we hit the final month of the year, and all thoughts start to turn to next season – training and preparation, let’s take a quick few moments to have a review of the year’s results.
