The Joe Daly Memorial Charity Cycle Rally 2019 will take place on Sunday June 30th at 10:00am. Starting at Simpson’s Hospital the route takes us out to Enniskerry and back. All proceeds are in aid of Simpson’s Hospital, Dundrum

The Noel O’Neill Trophy was run as a one day event in The Phoenix Park in 2017. Since 2018 the event has been a 2 day, 3 stage event which attracts some of the best racers in the country. In 2019 Noel O’Neill was on hand to return the trophy to defending Champion Paul Forristal of Scott Orwell Wheelers. Results and round up……

After a relatively quiet week by Scott Orwell standards it is all go again this week! Racing, leisure, youths – a little something for everything

The alarm went off at half four in the morning, I had my porridge and hit the road, meeting Luke GJ outside his place at five. We cycled across the outskirts of Ghent. By the hill at the big art centre called “Vooruit”, there were loads of people stumbling across or along the road…..

It’s 5:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning in late April. The Merry Ploughboy’s a re-assuring presence on the mountain as it first comes into view. In its streetlights I make out Storm Hannah’s detritus: Felled branches dancing in its gusts, floodwaters latticing the road….

At 19-00 planning became a reality as we started off on our journey, suggested breaks and food stops all penciled in along the way. Nice sunny evening, good temperatures and no rain. So I drop into Joe Dalys for an impulse bottom bracket, as you do and Louise is calling me out “I have an article in my head about the PBP 2019 and you nutters but I need someone to write it;)” Meanwhile Dave is very calmly suggesting to Louise she should stop abusing the customers….

The Appleby Orwell Women’s League 2019 came to a close tonight with the final TT round. 83 women raced in at least one round of the league! The final round write up will be posted later this week but until then here are the final round TT and the overall league results.

After the buzz of the Randonnee last weekend you would be forgiven for thinking that there would be a few quiet weekends ahead….not a chance – This Is Orwell!! It’s all systems go for the Youths One Day Stage Race, the National 400, the final round of the Appleby Orwell Women’s League and that’s just a sample of what is ahead this week…..

A beautiful, still night out around the lakes of Manor Kilbride/Blessington for round 5 tonight. We had 2 separate races with the A/A+ group starting first and the B/B+ group racing second. Despite the lumpy circuit the groups stayed together for the most part with 2 exciting sprint finishes. Read on for the results and latest standings with 1 round to go….

The 4th round of the Appleby Orwell Women’s League saw good numbers sign on in Corkagh Park despite the weather. It was Wet Wet Wet! After the previous rounds Orla Hendron had the measure of the groups and testing handicaps were set. Reports on tonight’s racing are thanks to John Hammer who was on hand with his camera and took time after to do a write up…..

The 3rd round of the Appleby Orwell Women’s League saw good numbers sign on again in Corkagh Park. After the 1st crit the previous week handicaps were set and a great night of racing saw some good sprint finishes. Read on for full results…

2019 saw Scott-Orwell Wheelers return to Strathallan with two teams in the Youth Tour of Scotland, a tough 3 day – 4 stage race. As always they pulled together as a team both on and off the bike and once again they have come together to give us a flavour of their weekend away. Chapeau guys!

Easter came and went with a flourish of good weather – hopefully a promise of what is to come this Summer! It was a busy week but we are only just getting going now.
