Orwell 300km Report
Photo Darragh Delaney/Audax Ireland 42 riders signed on at Joe Dalys in Dundrum to ride the Orwell Midlands 300km Audax on Sunday 6th April. It was nippy enough before dawn as they set off. The route is straightforward: Dundrum - Mountrath - Birr - Athlone - Dundrum and must be completed inside a timelimit of 20hrs. There is just one significant climb, the Wolftrap over the Slieve Blooms between Mountrath and Birr. It was a glorious sunny day, but there was a stiff h

2025 Week 3 Racing
19-Mar-2025 Week 3 of racing was a bumper Bank Holiday weekend, with racers traveling west on Sunday to the Galway Classic and then south to Sean Kelly Country for the Bobby Power Memorial. First up was the Lucan GP on Saturday. In great conditions, we had riders from U12 up to Masters competing. It was very special to see fathers and sons racing on the same day! Special mention to all our youth riders and parents for taking part. Week 3 of racing was a bumper Bank Holiday we

National CX Champs 2025 - Ballinasloe
What a day and what a course for the National cyclo-cross championships 2025 hosted by Ballinasloe Cycling Club! Orwell youths were there in force with 12 young riders representing the club. First up for our riders was Fiachra Connolly in the Under 8 category. A fearless display by Fiachra who made his way through the field on a shortened course. The finish line came too soon for him as he sprinted down the straight finishing a very impressive 3rd. Next up we had the under 10

1951 - the opening of Joe Daly Cycles
Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club was only 3 years old when a man called Joe Daly opened a new cycling shop in Dundrum on the 19th of October, 1951 Club jerseys have changed over the years, members have come and gone but spins from Joe Daly Cycles are still a regular feature of club life as is the constant generous support the club received from Joe and now his son David Tansey. The photo shows Joe outside the original shop along with the first coin he ever earned!

1995
The first Inter club league At the end of the Kelly/Roche era racing numbers were already in precipitous decline, so in 1995 the decision was taken to merge the Orwell club league with the Irish Road Club, and so the "Bell Amev Irish Road Club league" was born. St. Tiernans CC and IMBRC had been taking part in the Orwell league for the previous few years, and so they both joined in with the new league. Run over 14 weeks, and with some of the top riders in the country competin
