02-Mar-2025 The 2025 @cyclingireland road racing season got underway last weekend, with Orwell Wheelers putting in a strong first outing featuring both new and familiar faces delivering stellar performances.
The first National Grade Event — the Seamus Kennedy Memorial hosted by @navanroadclub Navan RC — had a massive turnout.
In the C1 race, @joe.nathan_matar put in an excellent performance, finishing in 4th position after getting up the road early on. @evan.keane worked hard throughout the race and finished in the bunch, capping off a solid weekend’s work.
The C2 race saw @seankane04 take home 8th position. Sean was active all day but just came up short in a sprint finish — a savage effort and a strong start to the race season.
The C3 race, the largest field of the day, featured five Orwell Wheelers riders on the start line. Dick O’Brien @dickobrien put in a massive effort, pulling the entire bunch for the last 15km and setting things up for Luke Keaney, @l.keaney18 who finished in 11th position.
On Saturday morning, @dublinwheelers got the race calendar and month off to a flying start. Evan had a great day in the saddle, finishing 4th in his first-ever race in Orwell colours. Joe-Nathan continued his strong form, coming home in 8th place. Luke Keaney also put in a solid ride, finishing 6th in the Mick Lally.
Special mention Josh and Kieran who did the first ever races. Also well done to Stephen O’Shea, Paul O’Brien, Johnny O’Brien , Barry Fennell, Martyn Holmes who round out the Orwell representation.
All roads now lead to the @droghedawheelers Boyne GP next weekend, and Orwell Wheelers are ready to keep the momentum going. @pinergyenergy
