National Hill Climb Champs
National Hill Climb Championships 2025 – UCD CC On Sunday, Orwell Wheelers were well represented at the National Hill Climb Championships, hosted by UCD Cycling Club on our doorstep in the Wicklow Mountains. Unfortunately, Luke Keaney was unable to attend as severe weather disrupted travel plans on the morning of the event. Alex Graham-Smythe suffered some bad luck with a dropped chain, costing him valuable seconds and preventing a clean run on the climb. Matthew Lane put in

Irish Masters Open Track Champs 2025
Three Orwell riders – Dan McElroy, Martin Holmes, and Orla Hendron – lined up yesterday at the Irish Masters Open Track Championships, proudly representing the club across multiple categories. Racing throughout the day, Orla Hendron was first in action in the M60 category. After qualifying fastest in the 2km pursuit, she unfortunately made a tactical misstep in the final, opting to use a tri-spoke wheel in conditions that still had too much wind. This made for a very challeng

Cooley Peninsula Greenway
By John McE Searching for Greenways on the Cooley Peninsula I had the pleasure of riding on the Cooley Peninsula Greenway recently, a few days prior to the official opening of the latest section. The only dampener was, well, the damp, as the weather was atrocious on the day with strong winds and monsoon-style rain. Nonetheless, it’s a brilliant area, with beautiful routes, and I’m keen to explore further. My journey started at Strandfield House , possibly the best café in

McGinty Autumn Classic
The inaugural McGinty Autumn Classic took place on Sunday in what can only be described as shocking conditions. Riders endured some of the worst rain and wind many had ever experienced, making for an exceptionally tough day in the saddle. The event, organised by Danny Conroy and his team at Bray Wheelers, was billed as Ireland’s richest race – and it did not disappoint. Orwell Wheelers were well represented across the categories.
