Evan Keane wins Noel Teggart Memorial in Co Down

Orwell Wheeler's rider Evan Keane produced another outstanding performance to successfully defend his Noel Teggart Memorial title in County Down on Sunday, taking victory in the prestigious C1 event after 124km of aggressive racing on the challenging Rathfriland–Annaclone circuit.

While Keane crossed the line first, the victory was very much a team effort. From the drop of the flag, Orwell Wheelers were to the fore of the action, with Padraig Moran, Luke Keaney, Joe Nathan and Liam Crowley playing a massive role throughout the race. With the National Championships just around the corner, the field was packed with many of the country's strongest riders and attacks came thick and fast from the opening kilometres.

The Orwell quartet were constantly involved, covering dangerous moves and infiltrating breakaways whenever opportunities arose. Their relentless presence at the front ensured that Orwell were represented in all the key moves of the day, forcing rival teams to chase and contributing significantly to the high pace that gradually wore down the highly competitive field.

As the race entered its final lap, the sustained pressure applied by the Orwell riders had reduced the contenders for victory. Sensing the moment, Keane launched a decisive attack on the main climb. His move was matched by Luke Smith (Moynalty Cycling Club) and Bryan McCrystal (Bear Cycling), with the three riders quickly opening a gap over the remnants of the peloton.

The trio worked well together over the closing kilometres, maintaining their advantage all the way to the finish. In the final sprint, Keane showed both strength and composure to take the victory, successfully defending the title he won twelve months ago and adding another major result to his impressive season.

Orwell Wheelers were also rewarded with a strong ride from Liam Crowley, who finished 11th in the C1 race after spending much of the day contributing to the team's aggressive racing strategy.

In the C2 event, Matt Lynch continued the club's strong showing with an excellent 12th-place finish.
