Not long to go now… so here is just some last minute information from social rep Ann Horan on the weekend away to Nenagh.

In a sign that CX is really taking off within the club, we have not one, not two, but three individual reports from the three races that took place last Sunday on Glencullen’s greens. Breda Horan, Michael Hanley and Eric Downey all take us through their days: two of them scored 9th, and one a DNF – find out which below!

It seems like there’s no off-season in Irish cycling, only the ‘cross season! New club kit rep Michael Hanley takes us through his DCCX Punchestown experience below!

A slightly delayed posting after a lovely Sunday spent between the Gerry Brannigan Memorial and the couch, this one comes in from Luke GJ Potter. He reports on the Orwell performances in the CX races across August and September, and we hope to see more as the season progresses!

The underage groups are up and running a few weeks now and we are delighted to see many new faces as well as some familiar ones. Read on for reports from the first few sessions, and details of the upcoming ones!

A week ago yesterday, many of us participated in probably the single biggest gathering of Orwell members in one place in the club’s history. The goal was to raise as much funds as possible for our friend and clubmate Keith Harte. We’re very happy to report the amount raised was far beyond our wildest expectations, and a testament to everyone who took part.

Bray Wheelers are running a Youth Track Camp starting with accreditation this weekend, and running over the mid-term break at the end of October. It’s designed for anyone who hasn’t done the track ever before, so if you’ve thought about it, head along! Details below.

It deeply saddens us to report the sudden passing of our beautiful friend and clubmate, Patrick O’Brien, yesterday afternoon. Pat was not just a talent on the bike, but an ever-giving and constantly positive presence off it. Winner of the 2014 Orwell League, a man of the Rás and a manager of the Rás, he was always ready to help out and assist, to give his time, knowledge and encouragement to others, and he will be very much missed by all of us. Our condolences to his friends

With the AGM tonight, it’s a perfect time to flick back through the end-of-season prize-giving. With plenty of photos thanks to Valdis Andersons, have a read through below!

As well as Eugène Dillon’s audax ride, another 23 Orwells undertook the Raid Pyrénéen with the help of Marmot Tours. Siobhain Duggan stepped up to the challenge of trying to summarise the five days of cycling and cols, as well as the fun and camaraderie! Have a read below!

Our league winner for 2015, Brian McArdle, collected his trophy on Saturday night after 21 weeks of trying to fend off the Murnane brothers. Earlier this year he undertook his first Rás, and we finally published his account below.

After successfully topping the Leisure participation competition for 2015, Eugène Dillon was presented with his winner’s jersey last Saturday night. Below, he recounts sealing the win with his independent attack on the Raid Pyrénéen.

One of the participants in the women’s beginner spins had her own special reasons for doing so. Last Sunday she completed the Great Dublin Bike Ride, and below Bridget Cullen shares her motivation.

Regular Sunday spins will get off to an intermittent start next month, with the first few weeks restricted to members only. The first Sunday we welcome non-members to trial joining the club will be the 25th October.

The youngsters got the jump on the adults this week when they started back for winter training in Corkagh Park as part of the newly restarted youth sessions. Read how they got on below!

Following on from Cong and Charleville, the A3s were ripping it up at the Laragh Classic, securing a bronze Leinster Champs medal for Jamie Busher, and another two places in the top ten for Bernard English and Brian McNally. Busher tells us how it went below!

On Sunday September 20th the younger cyclists in Orwell start back into their cycling sessions and they are welcoming new members with open arms. The 2 hour sessions on Sunday are open to ages 6-18, boys and girls and bikes of all shapes and sizes.
