Racing 17-18 June: Paracycling, Cross Country and Road

Some super performances from the men and women, boys and girls of Orwell Wheelers over the weekend: between road racing, cross country mountain biking and paracycling. Well done all!

Paracycling National Championships

Another great weekend for Ronan Grimes, our National Paracycling Road Race Champion! Ronan’s going to need an even bigger trophy cabinet, with also second in the Kilo/500 and the 3km pursuit and third in the Flying 200.

Road Racing

Gráinne O’Callaghan finished second in the Pauline Walsh Memorial race in Roundwood, the final round of the Women’s Intermediate League, winning the competition overall.

At the Christy McManus Memorial (A2/A3) at the same venue, Joe Nathan Matar showed that his form is continuing to build was fourth over the line while David Harrington was first unplaced Junior.

Meanwhile at the Sean Stagg in Kilrush, Cesar Lopes finished second, in his final race as an A4: enjoy the upgrade, Cesar!

Cross Country MTB

The fourth round of the national series took place on a challenging a new course on private land in Glencree. There were lots of Orwell riders in attendance, with our kids putting in particularly notable performances. Both Fionn (U14M) and Laoise Crinion (U12F) (riding for IMBRC off-road) finished second in their races but James Cunninghan (U12M), Ben Cunningham (U10M) and Jaxon Jennings (U8M) all won their races. Ben and James are bossing the series too.
