Evan Keane Crowned Munster Road Race Champion After Stunning Solo Ride
Evan Keane produced a ride to remember on Sunday, taking a brilliant victory at the Munster Road Race Championships in Whitechurch, Co. Cork.
Keane claimed the Munster title after launching a huge long-range attack and riding solo for around 70km to take the championship gold medal in emphatic fashion.
The Orwell rider, who has built a reputation as one of the strongest roadmen and sprinters in the domestic peloton, decided there would be no sprint this time around. Instead, he put his strength to work with an audacious move that ultimately proved decisive.
Initially, Keane was joined at the front by Padraig O’Sullivan of Burren Cycling Club. With the gap appearing to close, O’Sullivan was eventually brought back to the bunch, leaving Keane alone at the head of the race with a long way still to go.
Rather than waiting for the chasing riders to return, Keane committed fully to the move. Lap after lap, he maintained the pressure, showing huge strength, composure and determination to stay clear all the way to the finish.

When he finally crossed the line alone, Keane had built an advantage of more than six minutes over the chasing group to become Munster Road Race Champion.
