Padraig Moran Claims Leinster Senior Men Championship

Orwell Wheeler's secured a significant provincial championship success at the Leinster Road Race Championships in Clonard, Co. Meath, with Padraig Moran taking first place in the Senior Men category.

The 2026 Leinster Road Race Championships were contested over six laps of a 12.5-kilometre circuit, with the senior and junior riders competing together. The demanding nature of championship racing produced an unsettled contest, with a number of attacks and attempts to establish a decisive break throughout the race.

The decisive selection was made in the closing stages, when Moran joined Rhys Kenny of UCD Cycling Club and George Sevastopulo of Sundrive Track Team at the front of the race. The three riders established a significant advantage over the chasing group and worked together towards the finish.

With the race entering its final kilometers, the leading trio maintained their advantage. Sevastopulo subsequently made the decisive move in the closing stages and went on to take the overall Leinster championship title.

Moran produced a strong finish to take first place among the Senior Men C1 riders, securing the Leinster Senior Men championship for Orwell Wheeler's. Kenny followed in second place, with Ruairi Woods of Burren CC completing the C1 podium.

Moran's performance was the culmination of a disciplined ride in a highly competitive championship field. His presence in the decisive move ensured that Orwell Wheeler's were represented at the front when the race was ultimately decided.

The result represents an important provincial championship success for both Moran and the club and adds further recognition to the strength of the Orwell Wheeler's senior racing programme.

The overall championship was won by Sevastopulo, who became Leinster senior champion after his late attack, while Moran's second-place finish in the combined result also secured him the highest placing among the C1 senior riders.
