Here we go for 2019!! The Week Ahead is back with a round up of some of the events happening in the next 7 days or so. If you have anything you would like to share with your club mates please email pro@orwellwheelers.org

The Orwell 200 will take place on Sunday the 3rd of March and is the first of 3 Audax events which will be hosted by Scott Orwell Wheelers in 2019. This event is a great starting point for anyone thinking of giving Audaxing a go, the experienced or those starting on the road to PBP qualification.

Winter 2018 was a very busy and successful season for our young Cyclocross racers. Every weekend results came flooding in – medals, cups and photos of big beaming smiles! Luca, Áine and Katie were convinced to write a round up of the season for us – it’s full of ups & downs, mud, sweat but no tears………

Following on with our Five Minute Series we are talking to our hard working Club Secretary Fergal O'Sullivan this week. Fergal has been a club member for over 10 years and in that time has helped run the Orwell Randonnee, sat on the committee in various roles, helped with many many club spins and still managed to find time to ride his own bike! Ronan Grimes took up para-cycling relatively late in his life, but that has not stopped him from flourishing in the sport. Since he’s settled into the saddle, he has competed in both the Road and Track Para-cycling World Championships in the past two years, achieving a total of four top ten finishes. Unfortunately there is a weather warning for Saturday the 15th – high winds & heavy rain – therefore the Women’s Training Spin has been CANCELLED. The weather is looking much better for Sunday so we will see you all for the Club Spin instead. An orange group will leave Joe Daly Cycles at 9.10am

James O’Callaghan is a veteran of many long and testing cycles – audaxes, Marmottes and countless others but this summer he took on his biggest challenge to date in the form of the Mile Failte 1,200. Thanks to James for taking time to send a write up on the event and the preparation that went into it. We cant wait to see what he has lined up for 2019;)

Scott Orwell Wheelers are delighted to run our inaugural CycloCross Race in GAP Glencullen on Sunday November 11th 2018. The A-Race and Women’s Race will contribute towards the gridding points for the Leinster and National CX Champs.

It started with a chat on a Saturday spin. Simon floated the question – “would you be on for a trip to the Alps after the Summer?” Tuesday 18th September: Chris, Guy, Ian, Joe, Nick & Simon took a 7am Aer Lingus flight to Lyon. By mid afternoon they were on a gentle 20km spin to check out their full carbon rental bikes and ready themselves for the climbs!

Now in it’s 12th year, the Gerry Brannigan Memorial Cycle 2018 will take place on Sunday October 14th from the Grasshopper Inn in Clonee, Co. Meath.
