In Villaines, the whole population is in the streets. “Huh, there seems to be a festival going on.” “YOU’re the festival, bozo!” I park the bike and run up the steps to get my card stamped. The crowd cheers and parts in front of me, the brevet card in my hand become the Olympic torch, carried across continents to the controller’s rubber stamp. The Leinster CycloCross Championships 2019 will be hosted by Scott Orwell Wheelers. This event will also be round four of The Leinster League of CycloCross. This will take place at The GAP Glencullen on Sunday December 8th 2019.

Now in it’s 13th year, the Gerry Brannigan Memorial Cycle 2019 will take place on Sunday October 13th from the Grasshopper Inn in Clonee, Co. Meath.

The Scott Orwell Christmas Party will take place on the 30th of November. This year we will be combining the party with the Club Prizegiving. It’s all happening in Old Wesley, Donnybrook – kicking off from 8pm.

I had first heard of the Seashell Trust Sportive in 2016. The idea was to tie it in with a visit to my mate Rory in Manchester. It all came together for 2019 for what turned out to be an epic 170km in the Peak District!

Last week Ireland’s premier road race for women – Rás na mBan – took place in the stunning backdrop of Co. Kilkenny. Scott Orwell Wheelers not only had racers in the event our members were also heavily involved in helping, organising and providing support. The Cycling World Championships and the ParaCycling World Championships will be taking place in September – Scott Orwell Wheelers is exceptionally proud to have 3 riders representing Ireland at the highest level this year….

Last Sunday August 25th saw 1600 competitors from all over Ireland and internationally descend on Dun Laoghaire for the 2019 Ironman 70.3 triathlon. 4 of them were from Scott Orwell, read on to hear how 4 roadies got on in this tough event!
