It’s hard to believe that we have reached the June Bank Holiday weekend and none of us have been to places like Laragh, Wicklow Gap, Luggala or Blessington Lakes since the lockdown began. This would traditionally have been the final training weekend for the Wicklow 200 and the Orwell 2 Day Stage Race but instead, we are all still restricted to cycling within 5k of home.

On May 15th Cycling Ireland released their “Roadmap for Reopening Cycling Activity“. We will be entering Phase 1 of this roadmap on Monday the 18th of May. Read on for details of Phase 1 and a link to the Roadmap/CI Statement

Many of us have turned to the turbo and the imaginary worlds of Zwift and RGT Cycling during the current crisis but usually we tolerate about an hour or two before body and mind give in! Online cycling simulates cycling outdoors while you use your trainer at home. You use a desktop computer or laptop and an online cycling service such as Zwift, Rouvy, RGT or Sufferfest to display a virtual road on the screen in front of you, including other cyclists on the road too. The Orwell 200 will take place on Sunday the 8th of March and is the first of 2 Audax events which will be hosted by Scott Orwell Wheelers in 2020. This event is a great starting point for anyone thinking of giving Audaxing a go or the experienced.

Ronan Grimes has won a BRONZE medal in the Individual Pursuit at the 2020 ParaCycling Track World Championships in Canada today! Ronan set a PB in qualifying but went even better in the bronze medal ride clocking 4:43.806 and averaging 50.739kph
