June Bank Holiday Weekend Message

It’s hard to believe that we have reached the June Bank Holiday weekend and none of us have been to places like Laragh, Wicklow Gap, Luggala or Blessington Lakes since the lockdown began. This would traditionally have been the final training weekend for the Wicklow 200 and the Orwell 2 Day Stage Race but instead, we are all still restricted to cycling within 5k of home.

Dear friends

It’s hard to believe that we have reached the June Bank Holiday weekend and none of us have been to places like Laragh, Wicklow Gap, Luggala or Blessington Lakes since the lockdown began. This would traditionally have been the final training weekend for the Wicklow 200 and the Orwell 2 Day Stage Race but instead, we are all still restricted to cycling within 5k of home.

On behalf of the club committee, we want to express our thanks to every single member of the club who has demonstrated such solidarity with the Cycling Ireland and Government guidelines and are so willingly supporting the travel restrictions. Our combined efforts have been recognised by others and the club has received positive feedback on our actions.

We are nearing the next phase which we hope will see the current 5k limit being raised to 20k. Until then we need to hold firm to our strict adherence to both CI and Government guidelines and continue to remain within the advised 5k limit. We know in this current perfect weather for cycling this is hard to do however let’s not fall at the last hurdle. As soon as we have a revised position approved by CI reflecting Government guidelines, we will let everyone know.

Unfortunately a number of club members have had family members impacted by Covid-19 and many are working in front line roles. Our thoughts are with you all in these challenging times.

Best wishes to everyone for this holiday weekend, we cant wait to see you all in person again!

Louise
