Catherine Mahoney was only new to racing in 2018 when she signed up for the Orwell Wheelers-Appleby Jewellers Women’s League. She has come a very long way since then and last week took overall victory in the A Race at the new Appleby Women’s Evening Stage Race. Catherine has very kindly taken some time out to write a report on the event and her journey to the top step of the podium. It is definitely worth a read!

The Orwell 1000 will take place on Friday 27th August 2021. The route will start and finish at Joe Daly Cycles with a start time of 06:00 am though the shop will open from 05:30 am when toilets, changing room and bag storage will be available. Bags may be collected on completion of the route. The 1,000 km route is based broadly on combining 3 traditional audax routes into a single 1,000 km route. Read on for full details….

We welcome the revised government guidelines announced on 29/4//2021 that signal a return to club training activities in the coming weeks. It’s been a long winter for everyone cycling alone or indoors without the company of our clubmates and friends. The support from club members for the government guidelines over the last year has been fantastic and thankfully we will now all enjoy the opportunity to reap the rewards of everyone’s efforts and look forward to a summer of club

The government has announced the revised public health guidelines that will be introduced on a phased basis during April. Cycling Ireland has also issued an updated position for all clubs in Ireland. These guidelines highlight a number of key areas that relate to club activities and are constant for the full month of April, read on for more information..

Ronan was a first year Junior in 2020 which makes his win all the more special and what an exciting prospect for the future…………

The government has placed the entire country on Level 5 lockdown commencing midnight Wednesday 30th of December 2020. For at least the month of January we are all being asked to play our part in reversing the progress of the Covid pandemic that is impacting each of us and our families at the moment. In support of the national interest Orwell Wheelers is suspending all club training, events, spins and social activities until further notice.

The Government has introduced revised restrictions that come into effect from midnight December 26th. These replace the guidelines that had already been communicated for the Christmas period this year. (Updated 22-12-20)

Restrictions on travel around the country are eased from December 18th with people being allowed to travel outside their county until 6 January. During this period all the above guidelines stand however cycling outside county limits is permitted. Many thanks to everyone in the club who supported the restrictions. From midnight Friday, the 18th of Sept for a 3 week period the government have placed Dublin on Level 3 guidelines with some additional conditions. In addition to adhering to the Level 3 guidelines, people from Dublin have been asked to stay within our region and keep the number of people we meet to a minimum. This impacts club cycling in a number of ways:
