The 4th round of the Appleby Orwell Women’s League saw good numbers sign on in Corkagh Park despite the weather. It was Wet Wet Wet! After the previous rounds Orla Hendron had the measure of the groups and testing handicaps were set. A blue sky, crisp evening in Corkagh Park with only a hint of an Easterly wind saw two great races tonight. Over 20 signed on to race the B Race and 18 for the A Race!

The Women’s Crit Series hosted by Scott-Orwell Wheelers returns for 2019 and this year we are delighted to have Appleby Jewellers back as the event sponsor. The league welcomes all levels and abilities of women racing from absolute beginners to experienced veterans. The first race of the series will take place on Tuesday 9th April….

Ciara Ni Fhlathartaigh and Breda Horan are two Rás na mBan Rookies who are sharing a room this week. They have taken the time to compile a race diary for us! The final few days have now been added – an epic read for an epic race.

Rás na mBan 2018 starts this Wednesday with a top class field of domestic and International cyclists. Scott Orwell Wheelers is continuing a proud tradition of entering a team in this grueling race. The Appleby Orwell Women’s League 2018 came to a close tonight with the final TT round. 65 women raced in at least one round of the league! The final volume of the Crit Chronicles will be posted later this week but until then here are the final round TT and the overall league results.

Tuesday evening saw the opening round of the 2018 Appleby-Orwell Women’s Crit League.

The Women’s Crit Series hosted by Scott-Orwell Wheelers returns for 2018 and this year we are delighted to welcome a new sponsor – Appleby Jewelers. Scott-Orwell’s Lara Gillespie has had an amazing season on the Cyclocross bike this winter. Not only did she win the Women’s National Cyclocross Championships she then represented Ireland at the World Championships! We caught up with her (which is pretty tough to do) and managed to convince her to give us the inside scoop on her winter. Huge thanks to Lara for fitting in time to write this for us.

The Crit Chronicles make their way down the N81 to Brittas for the fifth round’s Road Race.

The Crit Chronicles continue into Round 4. This was the final round at Corkagh Park before heading to the road.

This week we discovered two types of competitive personalities; Type A, who took advantage of the Easter holidays doing savage spins and Type B, who savaged Easter eggs, totally forgot about the bike and momentarily forgot how to pedal until they heard the whistle blow for the off.

Last night saw thirty five of the fifty registered riders turn up to Corkagh Park for Round 2 of the Scott Orwell Wheelers Women’s Crit League.
