On the eve of the first ever (and hopefully last) Virtual Stephen Roche GP I would like to thank everyone involved in getting this up and running and to wish them the best of luck with the event.

Quanta-Scott Orwell Wheelers are proud to present this year’s Stephen Roche GP, in virtual format on 24th June 2020! The women’s race will kick off at 19:00 on Zwift, with the men’s race to follow at 20:00 on the RGT platform.

We have now entered Phase 2 in the easing of lockdown conditions we have all experienced since the middle of March. As a club Orwell suspended all club activities in line with Government and Cycling Ireland recommendations over the last 3 months and we very much appreciate the effort and commitment members have demonstrated throughout this time. It’s hard to believe that we have reached the June Bank Holiday weekend and none of us have been to places like Laragh, Wicklow Gap, Luggala or Blessington Lakes since the lockdown began. This would traditionally have been the final training weekend for the Wicklow 200 and the Orwell 2 Day Stage Race but instead, we are all still restricted to cycling within 5k of home.

On May 15th Cycling Ireland released their “Roadmap for Reopening Cycling Activity“. We will be entering Phase 1 of this roadmap on Monday the 18th of May. Read on for details of Phase 1 and a link to the Roadmap/CI Statement

Online cycling simulates cycling outdoors while you use your trainer at home. You use a desktop computer or laptop and an online cycling service such as Zwift, Rouvy, RGT or Sufferfest to display a virtual road on the screen in front of you, including other cyclists on the road too.
