The attached spreadsheet Youth Summer Calendar might help you find your way for your son/daughter if they want to race this summer. It can be difficult to find out the information at the start but once you’re in the know it works fairly smoothly so this may save you some time.
There are 4 tabs on the attached sheet – the first “Orwell Youths” is specifically the events that we in Orwell are going to try and get a gang along to. They are mainly races but there are a few other things as well – such as the Willow 100 mile which we have been invited to.
The second is called “All Road Races (2)” and on this I have filtered it just to select races which have a separate Youth race/s and then highlighted a few for you. On any given weekend there could be four or five races on around the country but there is usually only 1 or 2 with youth ones and I imagine you won’t be going outside Leinster apart from holidays. The Green highlighted ones are the ones that we’re hoping to get good Orwell numbers at and the Yellow highlighted ones are ones that Andrew Ryan did last year or that I think might be well run and of interest. There will be separate races for each age group – U12/14/16.
This Saturday and Sunday there are races in Grangegorman run by Stamullen CC – the Saturday ones are being run for the first time and the Sunday ones are part of a national series so there should be a big buzz. Andrew Ryan is going to the Sunday one – I’m attaching a flyer with details.
These will be run on the open road – marshaled of course . No pre-booking is needed, just show up and register on the day.
The week after is Ras na Nog – which is a 2 day event in Drogheda – I will be going up each day but some people stay over. There are three races over the two days for each age group. It is usually very well attended and there is a wide range of ability in each age group. I’m fairly sure you need to pre-register for this one. Ras Na Nog.
I’m also attaching a flyer for a Monday night series we will be running in Corkagh Park, Clondalkin. It’s the first year we have done it so have no idea how many to expect. You can come along on the night and don’t need to commit to all six. Orwell Interclub Youth Series
Another event coming up will be the Orwell Youth Stage Race. This will be an exciting event on May 7th in Corkagh Park. It is open to Boys & Girls U10 / U12 / U14 / U16. There will be three events for each age group and lunch will be provided. The entry fee is 10 euros. The flyer can be viewed here
