Rás Fundraiser & BBQ!

The entertainment for Tuesday’s Rás fundraiser has been unveiled! We’ve got a pair of main showpieces to give the lads not just one but two opportunities to impress you, and humiliate themselves.

To tickle your taste buds, the Rás team will first be using their kitchen skills and bringing the results in for a bake-off! You can decide whose brownies are best, whose tarts are tastiest, whose cakes are choicest! Only efforts from the riders themselves will be allowed, we’ll be checking the significant others for traces of flour. Our money’s on Dan Whiting, his lunchbox goodies are most of the reason we go to the races.

We’ll also see whose been out on the unluckiest training spins, with a puncture repair race. The most practiced rider with the nimblest fingers and quickest hands will win out. But who’s going to be doing the puncturing? Will they have to deal with burst tyre walls? WILL THERE BE NEUTRAL SERVICE?!

Find out on Tuesday night, just €10 a head! All proceeds go to not feeding the Rás lads, they need to keep losing weight until the race starts.

The team of Aidan Collins, Diarmuid Collins, Eric Downey, Odhran Connors and Daniel Whiting will compete in Ireland’s premier stage race, the UCI 2.2 ranked An Post Rás from May 19th-26th. They’ll be managed by Lucan CRC’s Graham Thomas, with Tom Blennerhassett and St Tiernan CC’s Brian Hayden as support.

There’ll also be plenty of other edible food on offer from the barbecue, raffle prizes, and we’ll have the prize-giving for the Wheelworx Orwell Ladies’ Crit League. Currently Martina Cronin (Iverk Carrick) holds the leader’s jersey, but Orwell’s own Trish Buckley is snapping at her heels only three points behind. The final round takes place in Sandyford at 7pm earlier in the evening.

The venue is the Blue Light pub on Woodside Road (http://goo.gl/maps/r1QUC) from 8.30pm. As well as helping out the Rás team, it’s also a great chance to meet your clubmates and socialise, while not standing around shivering in lycra!
