Orwell Results Round Up 2

Scott-Orwell Wheelers were active on several fronts: racing in the Waller Cup, Junior Track National Championships and IVCA race in Summerhill, Leinster Youth Training and active in sportives in the Pat Jones Memorial, the Tour de Meath and Liege-Bastogne-Liege. A Round Up…

Waller Cup

The riders took on a circuit of 16.5km which was 8 laps for A1, 7 for A2, 6 for A3 and 4 for women’s. The race was also the 3rd round of the Women’s National League. Brian McNally followed up a podium with the National Champ at Kimessan GP with 10th place in the Waller Cup to earn his upgrade to A1. McNally’s response was: “Already looking forward to self downgrading in 2017.” Aideen Keenan was fifth in the Women’s race.

IVCA Update

In Race 1, Gavin Dodd was 5th and Eddie Lynch 8th. In Race 3, former Orwell member Terry Ryan was third.

Leinster Youth Training

At the Leinster Youth Academy Training Day, the gang of Orwell youth had a road spin, watched a bike building demo and practiced skills. The organisers were happy with the turn out of the Scott-Orwell gang.

Junior Track National Championships

The Junior Track National Championships consisted of four separate track events; 200m TT sprint qualifier with a sprint final in a best of three head to head rounds, Pursuit was a 2 or 3km race, the Track Time Trial was a long timed sprint from a standing start and the Scratch race, a mass start race on the track which is 7.5 kilometres for women and 10 kilometres for men. Sean Murnane represented Scott-Orwell Wheelers in the race. Sean’s feedback: “The Track Champs were interesting as they were a lot earlier this year so I hadn’t been on the track until the week before. Thanks to Orla Hendron I was able to get on the track on Wednesday too. I was happy with how I did in all the events and look forward to next year’s.” Other Scott-Orwell Wheelers Naoise Sheridan, Gen Sheridan, Orla Hendron and David Swift took part in a foundation track coaching course and Fionn Sheridan was commissaire.

Sportives

Four club members took part in the Pat Jones Memorial and Muirna Walsh has written a report on the day and the planning involved to get the extra distance for the Orwell Randonneur competition. Another gang took part in the Tour de Meath while three travelled over to take part in the full distance of the sportive of the monument Liege-Bastogne-Liege with Shane Phelanwriting an account here, the three adding on an additional 10km due to accommodation being far out but on the flipside it meant it would be two points toward the Randonneur medal.
