McGinty Autumn Classic

Updated: Sep 16, 2025

The inaugural McGinty Autumn Classic took place on Sunday in what can only be described as shocking conditions. Riders endured some of the worst rain and wind many had ever experienced, making for an exceptionally tough day in the saddle.

The event, organised by Danny Conroy and his team at Bray Wheelers, was billed as Ireland’s richest race – and it did not disappoint.

Orwell Wheelers were well represented across the categories. In the C2 race, Matthew Lynch lined up for his first C2 start of the season, battling through the brutal conditions to take 15th place and round off a fantastic year of racing.

In the C1 race, Luke Keaney made his debut at this level, supported by teammate Sean O’Kane. With Ireland’s top riders on the line, the pace was relentless from the gun. After two laps in lashing rain, Sean made it into a decisive breakaway of seven riders, where he rode aggressively throughout. His efforts were rewarded with a superb 5th place finish – his best result to date and a testament to the hard work he has put in over the past 12 months.

Luke also rode strongly on his debut, finishing comfortably inside the top 20, an excellent result at this level.

A massive thanks goes to Joe-Nathan Mater and Stephen O’Shea for their invaluable support on the day.
