Kanturk 3-day Co. Cork

Orwell Wheelers’ Sean O’Kane and Adam McConnell headed south over the Bank Holiday weekend to take on the Kanturk 3-Day, the final stage race before the Rás — and what a weekend it turned out to be!

Stage 1 –

The weekend kicked off with fireworks as Sean O’Kane put in a huge effort, bridging solo to the lead group and sprinting to a fantastic 3rd place!

Adam McConnell rode smart, finishing safely in the bunch, keeping himself in contention for the general classification.

Stage 2 – Evening Time Trial

The riders faced a short, sharp TT later that day. Sean placed solidly and went into Stage 3 sitting 20th overall, 1:06 off the yellow jersey.

Stage 3 –

A blisteringly fast 116km stage followed, and both Orwell riders rose to the occasion.

Adam clawed back time and moved up to 23rd on GC.

Sean delivered a phenomenal ride, attacking early with six others and eventually forming a lead group of 15. From there, he broke clear again with three riders and powered to 2nd on the stage, moving into 6th overall, just 30 seconds off yellow. An incredible effort!

Stage 4 –

On Bank Holiday Monday, the race came down to one last push. Adam rode brilliantly to set up Sean on the final lap, but the cooperation behind was just too strong. Sean finished 6th on GC overall and, with his consistent performances, earned promotion to C1 — well deserved! Adam, feeling he had the legs for a top 10, ended up 21st on GC, but showed real grit and strength throughout the weekend.

Cracking performances from both riders — exciting signs ahead of the Rás!

Well done lads!
