Update: We’ve had to postpone this due to lack of interest, but we’ll run it again in the spring. In the meantime, orwellwomen@gmail.com is always open if you want to register your interest or head along on a less structured spin.

Starting this Saturday 12th October, the club will be running a 4 week course for women. The aim of the course is to teach basic skills such as group riding, climbing, descending and essential bike maintenance. Ladies who are interested in this course should ideally have a good level of fitness and can cycle 40kms comfortably.
What do I need to take part?
A racing bike with drop handle bars
Comfortable riding that racing bike
Good base fitness (able to ride 40kms)
A cycling helmet
When and where?
Every Saturday from Oct 12th for 4 weeks, meeting at 09.00 outside Joe Daly Cycles bike shop in Dundrum.
What’s covered?
Each week there will be a 20-30 minute talk followed by a group cycle which will incorporate what was covered in the pre cycle talk.
Should I do this?
Yes! All levels are welcome but mostly this course is for ladies who would like to get into cycling for the purpose of talking part in a cycling club, sportifs and racing. The course is about building confidence and equipping ladies with the basics of group riding, climbing, descending, gears, etc. so they are able to join in to club cycling.
Maybe I shouldn’t do this…
The course isn’t suitable for anyone totally new to cycling with no fitness. The first week we will be cycling 40kms, by the end of the course we will be cycling between 60-70kms, and finishing with a 100km ride.
Hybrid bikes are not allowed – the flat handlebars are dangerous for group riding.
So how do I sign up?
If you have a CI licence, just send an email to orwellwomen@gmail.com with your name, phone number and licence details.
Otherwise you’ll need to get a licence from Cycling Ireland so that you’re insured. They have an introductory licence for €15, and returning members pay €25. Make sure to bring your licence with you when you attend the course.
The course itself only costs €10. Orwell membership will be open from 1st November, and costs €50, which will allow you to continue your cycling with the winter spins for the rest of 2013 and into 2014.
I have another question!
Please email orwellwomen@gmail.com if you have any questions or queries.
