The final event in the Orwell Super Randonneur series is coming up in two weekends time, in the shape of The National 600. This is an old classic back in the calendar after an absence of 8 years, and is probably the most beginner friendly 600 around. Full details below!

The youth riders of Orwell have been ripping it up again, with Daisy O’Shea and Andrew Ryan in action in Bohermeen, Uisneach Sheridan competing in Wexford, and Seán Murnane taking part in another stage race in Kanturk on top of Bohermeen.

The wet and wild roads of the Corkman saw some solid Orwell performances last weekend, with Brian McArdle riding strongly throughout, and Conor Murnane getting up in the final sprint.

The first 10TT of the club league saw a new course record from overall winner Brian McArdle, and some other great performances and new PBs across the field.

In the last few weeks we’ve had two rounds of the Joe Daly Cycles National League, and three rounds of the Orwell StickyBottle.com Crit League. Orwell have been active throughout – with placers including Mary Brady, Orla Hendron, Ann Horan, Breda Horan, Monica Marconi, Aishling O’Connor and Sandra Telford. Results and race reports below!

The Orwell women sent a team of eight women to compete in the inaugural Newcastle West 2 Day stage race two weeks ago – Mary Brady, Orla Hendron, Ann Horan, Breda Horan, Helen Horan, Monica Marconi, Siobhán O’Connor and Naoise Sheridan. Along with them was Stephen Rowan in a supporting role, and together the team got through a weekend of hard racing – check out Ann Horan’s account below!

There must be something in the water in the Murnane household, with both races this week won by the emerging riders. Seán Murnane won a aggressive race on Wednesday, while Conor Murnane came out on top from a more negative competition on Thursday. All the action below, including videos of both finishes!

Last weekend in Drogheda, while the seniors only faced one-day races, the youth of Orwell were fighting it out in the Rás na nÓg. Promoted by Drogheda Wheelers, it’s a rare opportunity for the underage riders to experience a full-blown stage race. Orwell had a representative in each category in the shape of Seán Murnane, Uisneach Sheridan and Andrew Ryan, who was riding with the Leinster team.

Two weeks have passed since the Easter stage races, and as well as Conor Murnane’s sprints there, the club have been picking up prizes since. Conor and younger brother Seán both featured in Stamullen, along with Jules Cantwell. And this weekend in Drogheda, Paul Kane, Garry Blair and Dick O’Brien all took home envelopes. Mark Holland made it two in a row by following up his 2nd place last week with a fine win at the head of a bunch sprint in Corkagh on Wednesday, while yesterday Conor Murnane claimed his latest result from a three man sprint. All the action below!

The first races of the league saw two strong performances in each, with Seán Murnane and Brian McArdle each on the attack in their respective races. Murnane capped it off with a strong sprint, while McArdle did it the hard way with a solo effort from the halfway mark.

At Pine Forest last night, all eyes were on Dick O’Brien and Tom Blennerhassett after their recent Rás Mhaigh Eo showings, and they duly did their duty and delivered despite a dismal Dublin deluge dampening their deeds.
