Orwell Wheelers Training Camp took place on Saturday January 23rd. The group of twenty Orwell Wheelers alongside organisers Stephen O’Shea and Ann Horan with coaches Fiona Meade and Orla Hendron took off from Dundrum at 9am cycling to Bunclody via Blessington and Baltinglass.

Ciara Kinch has consistently been at the heart of the action in women's racing in Ireland over the past eight years taking multiple victories in Orwell colours. After a year racing for Towers CC, Kinch has returned to Orwell at a time when Orwell's women's team hopes to put in an exciting 2016.   Ciara with her time trial trophies at the 2015 IVCA prize giving. Tom Weymes won't mind me saying this but he is one of the elder statesmen of the club and is a real inspiration to all the younger Orwellians out there. At the ripe age of 74 Tom is heading towards doing his 11th Wicklow 200 this June and even has eyes on the 6 day iconic Alpine Classic Cols with the rest of the Orwell Alpine nutters (myself included!).When some of the rest of the club look outside and see rain, mountains and pain....Tom smiles to himself and gets on the bike

Orwell Wheelers were proud to launch its partnership with SCOTT Cycles on Monday January 25th in ‘The Cavern’ on Baggot Street.

Registration for the 2016 Orwell League will close at the end of February, so make sure you get your entries in before then. To whet your appetite for a bit of racing, we’re finally publishing a round-up on last year’s league, as well a report on the last round, won by Stephen Barry, with Colin Caesar hot on his heels.

The Orwell Wheelers will be having a night out for club members on Saturday February 6th at 7.30pm. The event will take place in Dublin’s hippest new wine bar ‘The Cavern’ on Baggot Street.

The Irish National Cyclocross Championships of 2016 were held in Tollymore Forest Park, Co Down. Seven members of the Orwell took part in the events organised by Dromara Cycling Club with three in the Senior Men, three in the Women’s and one in the Masters 40. Breda Horan was top Orwell in the Women’s Race and tells her story while new comer Eoin Ahern recounts the Senior Men’s race.

Stephen Roche cycling holidays in Mallorca are offering all Orwell members 15% discount on any of their cycling holidays this February.

The inaugural Club Cyclocross Championships were proposed by Stephen O’Shea at the Club AGM in October. What followed was a dedicated presence at the cyclocross races of the Orwell CX Crew. All the racing culminated in the Club Championships which took place on January 2nd in Corkagh Park with a field of 15 Orwell Wheelers.
