Scott-Orwell Wheeler Racers were spread the full length of the country this weekend – from Blarney to Drogheda. Conditions weren’t ideal but they battled through and did the club proud. Highlight of the weekend was possibly the 3rd place for new member, Aine Donegan, in Blarney………

2018 saw Scott-Orwell Wheelers enter two teams in the Youth Tour of Scotland, a tough 3 day – 4 stage race. Reports came back about their great team work over the weekend and in that spirit they have pooled together to write a race report for us. Chapeau guys!

It’s definitely not getting any quieter in the world of Scott-Orwell Wheelers. After the busy Easter weekend I mistakenly thought we might be in for a quiet weekend – not a chance!! Read on for a brief outline of what’s happening in the Orwell world for the week starting the 7th of April:

April 6th sees two teams of Scott Orwell Wheelers head to the ferry from Larne to Cairnryan to take part in the Youth tour of Scotland in Perth.

Easter 2018 was a busy weekend for the men of Scott-Orwell Wheelers. There were no women or youths/juniors racing so the men took centre stage with two big events – Ras Mumhan for the A1/A2 racers, and The Gorey Three Day for the A3s.

The Women’s Crit Series hosted by Scott-Orwell Wheelers returns for 2018 and this year we are delighted to welcome a new sponsor – Appleby Jewelers. The league welcomes all levels and abilities of women racing from absolute beginners to experienced veterans. The first race of the series will take place on Tuesday 10th April….

Scott-Orwell’s Lara Gillespie has had an amazing season on the Cyclocross bike this winter. Not only did she win the Women’s National Cyclocross Championships she then represented Ireland at the World Championships! We caught up with her (which is pretty tough to do) and managed to convince her to give us the inside scoop on her winter. Huge thanks to Lara for fitting in time to write this for us.

The Ras Tailteann and Ras na mBan are two of Ireland’s premier cycling events. The annual table quiz is an extremely important event in helping to get our cyclists to the start line. Funds raised along with sponsorship and substantial contributions by the riders themselves helps to cover accommodation, transport, race entries etc. Find out how the big night went!

The days are getting longer and Easter is just around the corner. Since last September our youths have been working on their cycling skills from their winter base at Corkagh Park. As Spring turns to Summer we preview what they will be getting up to this season.
