This week it’s a Barry double header! Barry Greene recounts his adventures with Di2 in Clonmel at the 2 stage GP and Barry Redmond takes us through the IVCA league race on the “not flat” Curragh. Scott-Orwell Wheelers are pleased to announce the 2018 running of the Hammond Memorial Time Trial Event on Saturday June 9th.

We start the Racing Round Up this week with the Youths where we are delighted to congratulate our latest Leinster Champion! From there we head North for a few races, back to Dublin via Meath and finishing off with a quick trip to the Rás – busy, busy, busy!!

The Orwell Randonnee is long established on the Irish sportive calendar as one of the toughest but one of the best events there is! This year there was a changing of the guard and new committee members took on the challenge of putting it together. We look back at the event here though the eyes of a few different people to see how the day went for them…

The Rás Tailteann 2018 starts this Sunday with a top class field of domestic and International cyclists. Scott Orwell Wheelers is continuing a proud tradition of entering a team in this grueling race. In the lead up to the event we are doing a series of profiles on the riders and support team. Read on to learn a little more about all our racers!

The Ken Duff Memorial is the “little brother” to the Iconic Shay Elliot race. It is a grueling, hilly race that attracts some of the top A3 riders in the country. This year Michael Hanley not only raced but survived to send us this race report!

The Appleby Orwell Women’s League 2018 came to a close tonight with the final TT round. 65 women raced in at least one round of the league! The final volume of the Crit Chronicles will be posted later this week but until then here are the final round TT and the overall league results.

A busy weekend of racing! The club hosted the very successful Scott Orwell Youth One Day Stage Race, we were well represented in the Shay Elliot and Ken Duff Memorials in Wicklow, the IVCA League continued and we even had members racing mountain bikes in Scotland….

16 racers in the B group and 11 in the A’s took to the open roads of Manor Kilbride for Round 5 of the Appleby Jewellers Orwell Women’s Crit League. Catch up on all the action and results on this weeks Crit Chronicles thanks to guest reporter John Hammer

A much quieter weekend on the racing front. With much of the club attention being focused on the Orwell Randonnee and the amazing blue skies it was hard to find some racing news… but never fear we have a few highlights!

One Venue – 3 stages – Races for all Youth Age Groups. Orwell Youth hosted a unique one day event for youth racers on Saturday May 12th at Corkagh Park in Clondalkin, Dublin. Run over 3 stages, including a TT, a Scratch race and an Elimination Race. FULL RESULTS here now..

Ras na nÓg is one of the premier stage races for youths in the country. Over the last number of years it has served as a rite of passage for many of our younger riders, with Darragh Long, Rachael Kaye Mellor, Naoise & Fionn Sheridan and Sean Murnane among the many who have used it as a springboard to subsequent junior and senior success. It was dark out when I wheeled the bike out of the foyer and onto the Noorderlaan, a dead grid style road on the outskirts of Antwerp. I saw a bike light in the corner of my eye and quickly mounted and followed a group that cycled into the city centre and the start place.
