A beautiful August Saturday brought out a top class field for the Noel & Keiran Hammond TT. Run over a new, flatter course this year and as part of the Cycling Ireland National TT League there were always going to be fast times! Our congratulations to all those who raced and sincere thanks to all the organisers, marshals and helpers who gave up their morning to make the event happen. Read on for full results:

A fantastic evening for Orwell Wheelers at the Leinster Hillclimb Championship — three golds and a silver for the club on the night.

We were back to a full set of National Championships after two COVID-impacted years. There were two days of racing, over three different disciplines, in Hamiltonsbawn, Co Armagh, hosted by Orchard CC. Orwell Wheelers had 17 riders taking part, and had someone in almost every single race. I got to drive neutral service in the road races, so got to see a good bit of the action, and nearly every race was tough, fast and fair.

A big weekend of racing for kids from Ireland and abroad took place this weekend in Derry and Donegal. The biggest fields of the year so far (over 50 Under 16 boys, most other fields 20 or more) in Ireland, with a good smattering of riders from The Isle of Man and Britain, was a real festival of youth racing, and our Orwell Youths were a major part of it all.

Three Orwells – Fran Brophy, Simon Kelehan and John McElligott – signed up for the 2022 Tour of Monaghan on 10th of July. Fine weather was forecast, and while it was the weekend prior to the “glorious twelfth” over the border, this wasn’t a concern in County Monaghan where the route was excellent, the event well organised, the weather was perfect and the locals friendly.

David Harrington, Luca Holmes, Killian O’Brien and Patrick O’Sullivan were selected to ride for Orwell Wheelers at the London 2 Day on 2-3 June. Ivan O’Brien (as team manager) and Dmitri Griffin (mechanic) travelled with them for an amazing weekend of racing.

The TT is over and the results are in! The final round of the Appleby Orwell Women’s League took place on a beautiful night in Glencullen. Caoimhe May (A) and Abby Burke (B) were winners in the TT and overall league winners were Annalise Murphy (A) and Muirna Twomey (B) Read on for full results:

It’s all coming down to the final TT! The last round of the Appleby Orwell Women’s League will take place on Tuesday the 24th of May and it is a return to the TT course in Glencullen. The first rider will be off at 7pm. The prizegiving will take place after the final rider finishes.. read on for more and the START LIST

Round 5 of the Appleby Orwell Women’s League was supposed to take place in the glorious sunshine of Mondello……. But May in Ireland had other ideas! Despite our crossed fingers, the putting out of the child of Prague and constant watching of weather apps/rainfall radars luck wasnt with us this time and racing was cancelled on the night. Saturday 14 May 2022 saw the return of the Orwell One Day Youth Stage Race in the enclosed circuit at Corkagh Park The event was open to all U10, U12, U14 and U16 boys and girls, with everyone taking part in three stages: Time trial: one lap of the Corkagh Park track Scratch race: because of numbers, girls joined the boys at each age level, but were marked separately U10: 4 laps U12: 15 minutes plus 1 lap U14: 25 minutes plus 1 lap U16: 35 minutes plus 3 laps Elimination ra

Orwell’s Club League moved to Corkagh Park for the past three weeks, where some high octane racing blew off the winter cobwebs. While some of the club’s seasoned racers acquitted themselves well, it was a number of up and coming youth riders who stole the limelight.
