It’s been a busy start to the season for our track cyclists! The Spring league came to an end this week with the prize giving and on Saturday all eyes were on the track for the National Omnium Championships where our own Valdis Andersons came home with a shiny silver medal! Thanks to Valdis for taking the time to put this report together for us….

Fresh off winning the B section at the Sundrive Autumn League, Scott-Orwell Wheelers’ Track Rep Eddie Lynch updates on the upcoming Orwell track champs ….

Since our last update from the track, the prizes and medals have been pouring in. Uisneach, Naoise and Fionn Sheridan, Seán and Conor Murnane, alongside Andrew Ryan, David Swift, Daniel McElroy, Dick O’Brien and Eddie Lynch have all been spotted on the boards. Find out how they fared below!

The Sundrive Summer Track League finished up recently, and our own Andrew Ryan, Uisneach Sheridan and David Swift all picked up silverware in the final standings. Orwell also finished 2nd in the club standings – details below!

The Orwell trackies of Daniel McElroy, David Swift and Conor Murnane were out in Sundrive competing in the Duane Delaney Memorial on Saturday, but it was Seán Murnane who took the overall honours! He shares his experience of the day below, with a few additions from McElroy.

About a third of the way through the Track Season we would like to bring you an update on how Orwell is getting on and give you some notice of upcoming events that may be of interest.

There was a great turnout for the recent track session organised by Dave Hendron, with some excellent coaching by Orla Hendron and Paddy Davis. Big thanks to them, hope everyone enjoyed themselves! A couple of photos below, thanks to Orla and Dave.

One set of results which fell through the cracks, but absolutely deserves to be highlighted and showcased are the recent Orwell performances at the Leinster Track Champs. Before heading off to the Worlds, Orla Hendron achieved double silver, but was outdone by Naoise Sheridan who won both silver and gold! Sean Murnane also featured, taking home double bronze! The National Junior Track Champs and Team and Keirin Champs took place in Sundrive Road last weekend, and three of Orwell’s former champions came away with medals – Juniors Naoise Sheridan and Rachael Kaye-Mellor, and veteran Orla Hendron. Their haul was an impressive seven medals across five events and the Keirin, while the men’s team were denied the podium in the sprint by a mere half second.

With our own club league well underway, our track cousins over at Sundrive are launching their league next Wednesday, 1st May.
