Youths round up – Looking forward to our open race day on Saturday

It is a time of firsts for the Orwell Youths – first of the 2016 interclub league nights, first Open races in a number of years, first time doing 160k for some;

Let’s roll back to last Wednesday;

Results aren’t up yet but Andrew Ryan and Uisneach Sheridan were back on the track for the Sundrive Summer League.Ronan O’Connor completed his second session of accreditation and should be joining them in the coming weeks. These races are on every Wednesday.

On Thursday it was 10mile TimeTrial in the club league out at Black Bull where dual sports star (he’s a triathlete as well) Tadgh Fitzsimons was 9th in limit, Uisneach Sheridan 11th in limit and U12 Ruairi Byrne taking 47th overall in a very credible 37:18.

Saturday was non-competitive with Andrew , Uisneach and RonanO doing some training on the track . Newly minted coaches (and Youth Team Leaders) Jen Sheridan and Naoise Sheridan were on hand for the weekend sessions @ Sundrive.

Sunday was an early start and a late finish for four of the group. Emmett Quinn, David Hearne, Ruairi and Andrew were on the Willow Wheelers 100mile Charity Cycle which went out to Kinnegad via Trim and back via Maynooth for a total of up to 160k (14 more than the Randonnee) – here are some of our crew and a couple of parents.

And then on Monday it was out to Corkagh for the 1st night of a 6 week Interclub Series, where 20 cyclists from U10 to U16 took part in 3 scoring events.

We had guests from Bray Wheelers CC, Usher IRC, Navan RC, Inspiration CC, Acorn RC, Sundrive Track Team and ourselves. The Orwell were represented by Lorcan Cattle , RonanO, Ruairi, Andrew and Uisneach.

The Top Ten after 3 events and Round 1 are:

As you can see a good mix of age, event, club and gender. It’s not too late to join and each week there will be a decent nights racing for all comers and god fun even if you are not in the running for the overall. Full results are in the file section of the website.

Upcoming this Saturday- The Orwell Youths 1 day Stage Races.

As far as we know this event is unique in Youths racing. 3 events, 1 day, on a Crit circuit. We encourage all our youths to attend – and we could use some help from parents – thanks to those who have volunteered already. You can let DaveMc know at forum thread. Spectators and supporters are very welcome.

Sign on is at 10:00 with the first race at 10.30 . Prizegiving will commence at 15:00 .More details on the website at Youth Flyer

Sunday

We had Deenside Youth races in the calendar for Sunday but these have been rescheduled to May 21st.
