Wild Weekend in Wexford

Ladies and gents, we have the final info on the weekend away! Make sure to have a read through – there’s lots of pertinent info!

Update: dinner is at 7pm on Saturday evening. GPX Files included inside.

Update #2: On arrival, the store room is at the back of the hotel.

Ladies and gents, we have the final info on the weekend away! Make sure to have a read through – there’s lots of pertinent info!

First and foremost, MAKE SURE YOUR BIKE IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER BEFORE YOU EMBARK UPON YOUR JOURNEY TO WEXFORD

Check your brakes NOW, make sure you have good pressure in your tyres and if there has been a niggley noise coming from your bike that you’ve been meaning to get checked out, do it! This is a long spin, numbers are big, and while cycling in a group, we are all depending on each other to ride safely.

Make sure you are well prepared for all weather conditions. Also ensure that you have enough energy bars, drinks, etc., to keep yourself going. Bring a pump, spare tubes and any other equipment you would normally bring for your long Sunday spin as there will be no support car.

Bag Drop Off

Strictly one bag per person. Ryanair rules apply. Please pack lightly and label your bag.

You have two options for dropping off your bag.

  • You can drop it to Fergal’s house on Friday night between 7pm and 9pm. Log in to the forum for location.

  • Alternatively, you can drop it to Joe Daly’s on Saturday morning but you must be there before 9.45am.

On arrival in Ashdown park hotel bags can be collected from the bike room.

Go to the back of the hotel where there will be a member of staff waiting to direct you to collect your bag and leave your bike.

Meeting Time and Place

On Saturday morning everyone will meet at Joe Daly Cycles at 9.45am.

Routes

Please take time to familiarise yourself with the route you choose. Don’t rely on someone else to lead you. If you think it may be helpful, print out the map and bring it with you.

I had a look at the list of those going on the trip and I think we will need to have 4 groups:

I suggest you go with the group you always cycle with on the Sunday winter spins.

All of the files can be uploaded to Garmins as a .gpx/.tcx file. So if you have a Garmin please do use that feature.

On Windows place the GPX file in the following folder: Computer/Garmin Edge 810/Garmin/NewFiles while your Garmin is connected to the PC. On Mac OS X place the GPX file in the following directory in Finder: “Devices” in the sidebar Garmin Edge 810/Garmin/NewFiles while your Garmin is connected to the Mac.

Dinner and Entertainment

Dinner at 7pm Ashdown Park Hotel private dining room.

To encourage people to mix and mingle, you will collect a number from me on entering the dining room and you must sit at this table. There will be over 80 people at the dinner, so hopefully everyone will make some new friends!

Drinks after dinner in the hotel bar, with suggestion for a dishco in downtown Gorey from a reliable local – The 64

Sunday morning

On Sunday morning bags must be dropped to the Orwell van parked outside the hotel before 9.45am. Leaving at 10 am sharp.

The way back is the same for everyone.  Coffee stops will be dependent on weather/quantity of alcohol consumed.

RouteSpin home Sunday 87km with 900m climbing – download the GPX file to get home.

Bag collection

On return ALL BAGS WILL BE RETURNED TO JOE DALY CYCLES. The bags will be available for collection from 2pm-3pm on Sunday.

After this time they will be locked safely into Joe Daly’s where you can come and collect them during the week.

Looking forward to a great weekend away!
