Vets Race Report

The combined White/Red race saw an aggressive contest from the outset, with a five-rider Red group breakaway establishing itself and ultimately staying clear to contest their own honours. Behind them, the White group race developed into a chase scenario, where Neal Hudson produced a strong solo ride to take victory. Harry Rochford secured 4th place, while Jonathan O’Brien finished 6th in the same group.

In the Orange group, a large field of 43 riders came down to a fast and competitive bunch sprint. Matthew Broadstock (Orwell Wheelers CC) proved the fastest on the day, taking the win ahead of Kevin Synnott (Lucan CRC) in second and Alan Dempsey (St Tiernans CC) in third. Garrett Greene, who had been active off the front during the race, was brought back before the finish and came home in 6th place. He was followed by Martijn Vercauteren in 7th, while Dave Murnane rounded out the top ten in 10th place.

The Black group race was decided by a reduced bunch sprint after a selective race. John Anslow (Orwell Wheelers CC) emerged victorious, with Michael Scully (Laois CC) taking second place and Malachy Mc Kenna (Lucan CRC) finishing third.

In the Green group, William Parnell (IVCA Cycling Club) claimed top honours, followed by Terry Ferris (Orwell Wheelers CC) in second and Tom Lucas (Carlow RCC) in third.

The Blue group also saw a competitive field, with Mark Mulcahy finishing in a solid 8th place.

In addition, the IVCA 10-mile time trial held last Tuesday featured two Orwell Wheelers riders. John Kehoe, riding a time trial bike, delivered a strong performance to finish 4th, while Ian Devlin, competing on a road bike, placed 12th.
