The club has a tonne of upcoming events, many that will appeal to all members, and some with a racing slant. Have a look at a few brief overviews below.

Firstly, next Monday we’ll have Aidan Woods in to talk about the importance of core strength, as well as flexibility. Aidan knows what he’s talking about – he’s currently Head Physiotherapist with the Olympic Council of Ireland, as well as being Head Physiotherapist at the London 2012 Games. Before that, he was a physio at both the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing events, as well as plenty of work with AI and across many sports. Many Orwell members have also been on his table in his premises on Pearse Street.

A week later, our own Brian Ahern will give a talk based on his vast experience as a racer. A Junior Tour winner with several strong Rás results to his name, Ahern will teach potential racers about everything from lifestyle to etiquette. It’s an excellent opportunity for both novice and seasoned riders to learn a trick or two – more details in this forum post.

On the two following weekends, Dick O’Brien will run two introductory racing sessions. A veteran of the national scene, and double Orwell Time Trial Champion for 2014, O’Brien will take you through the ins and outs of the club league, and then making the jump to A4 open racing. Anyone even thinking about trying racing should head along, it’s an open and welcoming environment – full details in the forum.

After that, the focus switches to leisure, and a night to introduce people to the various activities the Leisure Group has lined up for the spring and summer. You can get the details of the 2015 Leisure Participation Competition and there’ll be the traditional and very popular “Introduction to Sportives” information session, covering all the practical things to keep in mind while preparing for events.

Further dates for the diary are in the sidebar, and we’ll provide more detail closer to the time of each – a track taster day for those interested in trying out the boards, a club reliability trial, and a night on basic bike maintenance with the much-loved Dave Tansey of Joe Daly Cycles.

All the dates, times and venues are in the General Info box at the right!

As well as the published events, there are also dedicated spins for A3 and A4 racers – potential and actual – that you can contact the racing reps about for details of times and dates. And of course, the Sunday spins continue!
