Tour de Beast - 2026

Updated: Jan 11

420 years ago, St. Garabaldi jogged up 69 peaks, and returned with the Strava Route on Stone Tablets. Every year, we ride The Beast to reflect upon his guidance.

The final In-Forum-al spin of the year is the Tour de Beast.

The Tour de Beast is to celebrate the end of the Summer. In years gone by, we used to have a group dinner to celebrate, hence what the WhatsApp Group is for. So if anyone wants to organise the dinner, that'd be nice.

The route is the start of the Randonée. Up Burrow Rd., along Pine Forest Rd., over the Featherbeds, down The Liam Horner, up The Wall, Old Long Hill and Luggala. Then down to Laragh for a coffee. Up the Shay Eliott, Sliabh Mann, Brown Mountain and Shay Eliott again. Optional refuel in Laragh. The run for home brings us up Glenmacnass Waterfall to Sally Gap and over the Featherbeds again.

Date/Time :

Saturday 15th August, or maybe Sunday 16th August depending on Weather. Time: 08:00.

Location:

Old Dundrum Shopping Centre.

Route and Weather:

Route: Strava // RwGPS // VeloViewer.

MyWindSock: Saturday // Sunday.

160km w/3200m

On MyWindSock, just edit the Default Rider to have your target Wattage and Weight. The best graphs are the "Weather Overview" (displays temperature and rain) and "Wind Speed" (displays Wind Speed). It will help you decide on your clothing choices.

Please take care on the descent of Brown Mountain. There are a few potholes on the apexes of the corners.

Please take care at the Viewing Point, as some riders may be going down Cruagh Rd.

Whilst the full 100 mile spin is preferred for Orange riders, more-sensible riders can pick and choose the segments that they want to do.

It's 114km, if you chop off the Shay Elliot and triangle section.

Or 80km, if you turn for home at the Sally Gap crossroads, after Luggala.
