Orwell Wheelers Team Announced for Rás Tailteann 2026

Pinergy Orwell Wheelers have announced a strong five-rider line-up for Rás Tailteann 2026, (May 20th - 24th) with the squad arriving at the start line as one of the most cohesive and well-drilled teams in the country.

The team of Evan Keane, Luke Keaney, Sean O’Kane, Padraig Moran, and Joe-Nathan Matar will each line up for their second Rás, combining valuable experience with a season built on collective execution, clearly defined roles, and a strong team-first approach.

That cohesion has been a defining feature of their campaign from the earliest races of the year. At Rás Maigh Eo, Orwell delivered an outstanding all-round performance, securing multiple stage victories and jerseys across the weekend. The team controlled key moments of the race, riding with clarity and purpose, and consistently placing riders in decisive positions.

Crucially, that performance laid the foundation for what followed. The confidence, structure and rhythm developed during Rás Maigh Eo carried directly into Rás Mumhan, one of the most demanding stage races on the calendar. There, Orwell immediately reinforced their momentum by winning the opening team time trial, a result that underlined both their preparation and their ability to execute as a unit under pressure.

The transition from Rás Maigh Eo into Rás Mumhan highlighted the group’s growing maturity as a stage racing team. Rather than peaking for a single weekend, the riders demonstrated the ability to maintain performance across consecutive events, bringing the same cohesion, discipline and trust into a higher level of racing.

Across the broader season, that identity has remained consistent. Orwell riders have been aggressive, disciplined, and organised, building a reputation for racing as a unit and consistently influencing race outcomes.

Individually, each rider brings a clearly defined strength to the team.

Evan Keane has emerged as one of Ireland’s leading riders this season, combining consistency with a sharp sprint finish. His ability to win races and deliver under pressure makes him a key leader and genuine contender in decisive finales.

Padraig Moran adds strength on demanding terrain, particularly on sustained climbs where his aggressive riding can shape the race and break down the field. His climbing ability is reinforced by

Joe-Nathan Matar, who provides crucial support on the hills and on local roads, helping to position teammates and maintain control in selective conditions.

Sean O’Kane gives the team a valuable option in breakaway situations. His strength and endurance allow him to make and sustain key moves, offering tactical flexibility and ensuring Orwell are represented when races split.

Luke Keaney’s role is central to the functioning of the team. A committed and selfless rider, he has consistently delivered in support roles, contributing to positioning, chase efforts, and the execution of team strategy. His ability to read races and commit fully to the collective has been a cornerstone of the team’s cohesion.

Team Manager Neal Hudson returns for his second year in the role and brings significant experience from both racing and team management. A member of Orwell Wheelers for 16 years, Hudson has played a key role in shaping the structure and cohesion seen within the squad this season.

Speaking ahead of the race, Hudson highlighted both the commitment of the riders and the strength of the support team behind them:
