2026 Orwell Midlands 300km Audax

The Orwell Midlands 300km Audax took place on Saturday 11April. Many thanks to Francis Barry and Joe Wheatley who rode the route check ride last Weds. 37 riders started the even at 6am Saturday.

After leaving Dundrum they faced into a serious headwind for the first 100km to the first control at Mountrath. Then it was up the Wolftrap, over Slieve Blooms, down to Kinnity and on to Birr (133km) for a quick coffee stop at CP2. There were icy patches at the top of the hill - to add to the wind (must have been fun for the 2 on the tandem).

From Birr its a short hop to Athlone (172km) for a proper feed at Ronaldo's fine dining. Then turn for home. Three riders were back at Joe Dalys in under 13hours and all riders were home well inside the cutoff time of 20hrs. Well done all!
