Mahoney Sparkles in Mondello
Catherine Mahoney was only new to racing in 2018 when she signed up for the Orwell Wheelers-Appleby Jewellers Women’s League. She has come a very long way since then and last week took overall victory in the A Race at the new Appleby Women’s Evening Stage Race. Catherine has very kindly taken some time out to write a report on the event and her journey to the top step of the podium. It is definitely worth a read!

Lara’s Cyclocross Success!
Scott-Orwell’s Lara Gillespie has had an amazing season on the Cyclocross bike this winter. Not only did she win the Women’s National Cyclocross Championships she then represented Ireland at the World Championships! We caught up with her (which is pretty tough to do) and managed to convince her to give us the inside scoop on her winter. Huge thanks to Lara for fitting in time to write this for us.

Tales from the Bunch – Part 1
Sometimes among all the reports of popping champagne corks on the top step of the podium, it’s easy to forget that races contain many other stories – stories of tenacity, teamwork, comradery…. and sometimes just good old fashioned hilarity!

Rás na mBan 2015
It’s been a couple of months since the apex of the women’s road racing, An Post Rás na mBan came and went in a flurry of activity and it’s a good time to reflect on a couple of typically dogged and superbly athletic performances from two of the club’s most talented vets.

World Champion – part deux!
We’re getting close to the 2015 World Track Masters event, so the time is ripe for a trip down memory lane. At the event last year, Orla Hendron claimed another World Championship title to add to her 2010 gold, this time in the 2k Pursuit. She also earned a brace of silver medals from the Scratch and Points events. If you’ve forgotten the buzz at the time, or weren’t in the club, have a quick read below.

Rás na mBan 2014
With today being the date of the very open Women’s Commission AGM, it seems a fitting occasion to publish this one from the drafts folder! For at least the fourth year running, Orwell fielded a strong team in the An Post Rás na mBan. With four club members in Aideen Keenan, Ciara Kinch, Ann Horan and Claire McEntee, and a guest rider Lydia Gurley, the team took home the Top Irish Team prize, 9th overall, 2nd and 3rd county riders and a combativity award! On the women’s open scene, Monica Marconi scored an emphatic victory in Wexford for the final round of the National League, while Ciara Kinch came home a fine 5th.
